Monopoly, a game of which has stood the test of time. Whether you have played it when you were younger or when you were an adult everyone has heard of this game. How has this game stayed relevant? Is because everyone loves playing a game that makes people mad? Most of the reason is that it is such an iconic game is that it finds a way to change with the times.
Monopoly was first introduced on February 6, 1935, by the Parker Brothers (later bought out by Hasbro). At the time when it was released the box was not big enough to hold the board inside with the pieces, however, they did offer a deluxe version that did. Throughout the year’s, different versions of the game have come out. In total there are over 1,000 different variations! Every so often they do make changes to the classic game by retiring some of the pieces. Last year the thimble, wheelbarrow, and shoe were replaced by a penguin, a Tyrannosaurus rex, and a rubber duck.
Not only do they change the pieces every once in a while but they change the pieces for the different editions. If you have the Muppets edition you have Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Animal, Swedish Chef, and Fozzy Bear. One of my older friends has the Muppet edition and has never opened it. So I went to Google to see how much it would be today. It now cost 67 dollars off of Amazon and she bought it for 20 bucks 8 years ago. Other editions can probably cost more if they were bought in the earlier versions of the game.
In my personal experience with this game is that I always lose. I also lose interest in it due to the fact I never have enough money and it takes too long. It takes a good couple of hours to play so, it is hard to really find time to sit down and play this type of game. However, it is fun to play with all the different styles.

I’m still one of those people that love Monopoly to this day! I own two virtual versions of the game and have 3 different specialty boards. Unfortunately, they don’t get much use since everyone else is not much of a fan.

I am not fun to play Monopoly with. I am a very competitive person and I like to win so I buy and buy and buy. I can actually say I have never won a game of Monopoly but I can say I made it hard for the other person to win.
